Hario: The company has been dedicated to the design, production, and sale of heatproof glass since it was founded in 1921 and is the only heatproof glass manufacturer in Japan to have a factory.

Hario began as a manufacturer of laboratory glassware. In 1948, it expanded their production to household items, starting with the coffee syphon. Today, it continues to make a variety of items, from microwave-safe kitchenware and coffee and tea implements, to aromatherapy and pet products.

Enjoy making concentric circles while brewing a delicious beverage? Then the Hario dripper is perfect for you! The dripper sits directly on top of your cup to make fantastic single-serving coffee. All you need to do is add ground coffee (freshly roasted of course!), a paper filter (size 02), and a stream of hot water and in 3 minutes you’ll have a great cup. This dripper makes an excellent travel companion.

Size 02 is good for making anywhere from 1-4 cups at a time.  If you want the flexibility to make up to 4 cups at a time, use the Size 02 dripper.

This beautifully shaped kettle by Hario allows for a smooth, controlled pouring technique when you're brewing yourself the perfect cup using a pour over. You can boil water in this stainless steel kettle over a gas or electric stove before you use it to wet your coffee grinds. 

As an aside, there's also something strangely hypnotic about forming concentric circles of water over your coffee grinds before your coffee starts to steep. The Hario Buono Kettle has a capacity of around 27 ounces which should be enough to make 3-4 cups of coffee.

How a Siphon Brewer Works

So how does a siphon coffee maker work? Science!

There are two chambers, and the first is filled with water. By heating the bottom chamber, vapor pressure forces the water to rise into the upper chamber. Here it is mixed with the coffee grounds.

The water, now mixed with the grounds, is pulled back down into the lower chamber (thanks to gravity and a drop in pressure, the “vacuum” effect), through a filter which sits at the bottom of the upper chamber, and the bottom chamber in turn fills with brewed coffee.

A bit of science and a bit of drama might just give you the most exciting cup you have had in a while.
